Summer in Puerto Rico

One of the best perks about being a teacher is that we get holidays and summers off! For the past few months, my husband has been working in Puerto Rico assisting with the Hurricane Maria disaster relief efforts which meant I got to spend the whole summer living in Puerto Rico with him.
Puerto Rico is by far one of the most beautiful places that I've visited. I've literally been in such awe of all of the natural beauty with every place that I visit. Every local swears that their beach is the best beach, but as I travel around the island I'm not sure that is true because ALL of the beaches are just breathtakingly beautiful.
Puerto Rico is still dealing with a lot of devastation so as you drive around you do see a lot of damaged areas and many of the touristy spots are also still facing devastation. With that being said, I did end up at some places which ended up being close or completely gone. I found an AMAZING website Puerto Rico Day Trips that served as the best tour guides of Puerto Rico. Their website is so great because it allows you to figure out activities by region, activity, and visitor type. Their post are kept pretty up to date and they give you the exact coordinates of all of the locations.
We spent our time living in the town of Dorado which is located about 30 minutes away from Old San Juan in the Northern Coastline of Puerto Rico. Downtown Dorado offers lots of good restaurants, a lot of community centers, a library, and one of my new favorite stores Local Story, a local shop that features a curated selection of well made local artisan products.

We lived in the Plantation Resort Residences of The Ritz-Carlton at Dorado Beach.

This place was INCREDIBLE! Dorado Beach Resort has two beach options, the East Beach where you can partake in lots of water sports (I took some windsurfing lessons at GoodWinds Surf Shop.) and the West Beach where there's a luxury pool and spa. There is also four golf courses located on the grounds, multiple restaurants, a spa, gym, and a giant lazy river at The Watermill. You can basically just spend your entire vacation at Dorado Beach Resort because it literally has everything, including the friendliest staff that I've ever encountered!

Puerto Rico is approximately 100 miles long and 35 miles wide so you can do a lot of exploring in a short amount of time.  Mark and I did a lot of exploring over the weekends but, Mark worked every weekday 7-7 so I decided that I'd have to step out of my comfort zone and go exploring on my own! In the next couple of post you'll get to see some of my favorite adventures!

xoxo, Fabi
